The following are resources teachers can use to help students avoid plagiarism, as well as tools to determine if students have plagiarized.
General resources

Tools to help combat and discover plagiarism
- Turnitin.com A fee-based service which attempts to determine if internet plagiarism has occured by searching a paper for unoriginal content.
- MyDropBox Another fee-based service which also attempts to determine if internet plagiarism has occured.
- EVE2: Plagiarism Detection for Teachers A software program that checks for plagiarism by cross-referencing a large number of websites. Pay-ware.
- Glatt Plagiarism Screening Program (GPSP) Another software program to check for plagiarism. Pay-ware.
- CopyCatch Gold A software program that performs a check to determine if plagiarism has occured. Pay-ware.
- WCopyfind A software program used to compare multiple local files to discover similarities that may indicate plagiarism. Free.
- Jplag An online service that can check for plagiarism in computer science course work (program creation). Free.
- Cheating 101: Paper Mills and You, Internet Plagiarism (Kimbel Library) List of paper mills that is updated every 6 months. More than 250 mills are listed. Also contains a printable list of steps to prevent plagiarism.
Search engines
In a most search engines, enclose a distinct phrase from a paper in quotations to search for that exact phrase. This is a good method to use if you suspect a particular part of a paper may be plagiarised. For detailed information on how to check for plagiarism using search engines, see this tutorial page.

- Dogpile a metasearch engine that utilizes Google, Yahoo, Ask Jeeves, About, LookSmart, Teoma, Overture and FindWhat.
- Debriefing Another powerful meta search engine.
- The Deep Web (University of Albany Libraries) Information regarding information that is difficult/impossible to find using traditional search engine techniques. This information is often called the deep (or invisible) web.
